Rotary Opp Shop 132 Thompson Avenue, Cowes

The Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo is very fortunate to have a community Opp Shop to raise funds for its important charitable projects locally, nationally and internationally. Donations to the Rotary Opp Shop can be made and are welcomed. Monies raised from the sale of goods are put toward Rotary projects and without this valuable asset, we would struggle to deliver the many and significant projects that we do. The Rotary Opp Shop is more than a business; it is a community asset. Over and above the value it adds to our projects it supports members in our community that may find themselves in dire need due to circumstances beyond their control. We work with the emergency services on Phillip Island and provide goods to assist desperate members of the community get back on their feet after a traumatic event such as a fire, flood, or other events beyond their control. We are proud to be able to help our community in many ways and the Opp Shop is one of our great assets to enable this. We are always in need of volunteers to support this important asset so if you would like to make a difference and support the Rotary community please contact us or visit the Opp Shop at 134 Thompson Avenue, Cowes or speak directly. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. The Opp Shop is open Monday – Saturday 10am – 2pm. For enquiries please contact Diane Thomas 0417 577...
ROBART – BBQ Trailer

ROBART – BBQ Trailer

The “Sausage Sizzle” is an Australian culinary institution and generations of Australian children have grown up with a “sausage and bread” morning tea on either a Saturday or Sunday every week. No event is complete without a sausage sizzle and some retail stores are frequented on weekends for their sausage sizzle. In fact there are even apps made public on election day in Australia that tell voters where the sausage sizzles are being held and rating the best one so voters can visit that polling booth to cast there vote! The humble sausage sizzle is such an important part of Australian life that Rotary has embraced the need to ensure our community can access the BEST sausage sizzle on the day. Yes, there is some ‘tongue in cheek’ here, but not much. Our Club is known for turning up at events and providing patrons of that event with ‘a great snag in bread’ for a small donation to Rotary. This is a community service we are proud to offer and we work with many schools, businesses, events and other charities to meet this community need. In 2014 a few of our members got together and designed and built a fantastic asset for our Club; a new BBQ trailer, which has been dubbed ROBART (from the name Rotary BBQ Trailer). The members mainly responsible for the BBQ are Brian Holloway, Gary Simmons, Carron Bourke & John Tennant. The Club was very fortunate to receive donations from Cr Kimberley Brown, The Bendigo Bank, The Paint Place and Rinnae. Many man hours were put in by our volunteers doing the physical work and the result is a wonderful fully equipped BBQ...
Australia Day

Australia Day

G’day mate. Australia Day is the official national day ofAustralia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, it marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson, New South Wales, and the raising of the Flag of Great Britain at that site by Governor Arthur Phillip. While not everyone is happy about the arrival and colonisation of Australia by the British, we are now “the lucky country” known as Australia. Australia Day is the day Australians celebrate what’s great about Australia and being Australian. Australia Day celebrations take place in towns and cities, big and small, right across this great country providing Australians of all ages and from all walks of life the opportunity to come together  to celebrate our national identity. The Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo supports the Bass Coast Shire Council (BCSC) host Australia Day celebrations in Cowes, on Phillip Island. Our Club organises the day from selecting and arranging for the entertainment through to sitting on the selection panel for the BCSC awards. We organise the free BBQ, the marquee which we also erect, we act as MC and we select a recipient for our Rotary Club community services award. It is a great day and we hope to see you at the next...
Carols By The Bay

Carols By The Bay

Carols By The Bay is a popular community event run by Bass Coast Shire Council every December. It is a time when the community gets together to sing carols and celebrate the Christian faith, although for many this event is simply an opportunity to enjoy our community spirit, catch up with friends, enjoy a picnic by the bay, and often appreciate a firework display at the conclusion of the evening. Our Club supports this event and seeks to raise funds for our community projects through the use of our BBQ Trailer. Volunteers from the Club run a “sausage sizzle” that sees them cook and sell sausages and drinks to patrons. This service is appreciated and well utilised by those attending the carols and our Club makes a small profit from the...

Ride To Conference

2015 Ride to Conference is an “institution” undertaken by the brave (and fit). We have two members participating in this years event; Carron Bourke and Phil Dressing. Full congratulations to them!! The event began on the 22nd March 2015 and riders peddle about 100 km per day to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health. Each participant is encouraged to raise around $1000 each and the combined funds are donated to specific and difference causes each year. This year the bike riders will raise money through sponsorship for the following four beneficiaries.
